| I recently heard an interview in which Nicole Richie self-identified as "Black". Not "biracial", "mulatto" or "multiracial", but Black. I've also heard that her biological Mother is African American and her biological Father is Latino. I find her decision to identify specifically as "Black" very interesting (especially considering she has "hidden" her beautiful multiracial dark-blond curls with straight, golden-blond extensions to the extent that she now appears very White). Good for her for claiming her right to identify with what feels "right" to her! Anyone else have an opinion on this? |

I don't think that I've ever gotten a straight story on Nicole Richie regarding her racial background. I don't really keep up with celebs too much but it seems that the only reason why Nicole's public declaration that she identifies as black is an issue is because she appears totally white. It would seem ridiculous for Whitney Houston to make a public declaration like this.
Ultimately, whatever an indivdual is most comfortable with regarding their ethnic identity is what they should go with. |

I think it has more to do wiht being raised by Lionel Ritchie than anything. Supposedly one of the Quintanillas is her father and her mother was White, but she has been denying this lately from what I understand.
I doubt her father is false though. She was born Nicole Camilla Escovedo.
Her purported biological father and good Lionel Ritchie friend Peter Michael Escovedo.
Grandpa
Grandma and Grandpa on the bottom right.
More of the Escovedo family. You can see the obvious resemblance

| You know what? I've decided that I'm much more concerned with Nicole Richie's obvious and potentially life-threatening eating disorder than I am with how she identifies regarding her ethnicity. Just a thought. |

I always thought Nicole & Raven Simone(cosby show) looked alike, especially when Nicole had some weight on her.
She looks sickly now |

What I meant by my statement that you've highlighted in red is this, the fact that it appears very obvious to most Americans that Whitney is African American would make it seem redundant or silly to make an issue of it as if it's some kind of revelation for her to express her choice to identify as African American. Because Nicole Richie looks completely white to most Americans, her decision to identify as black isn't redundant or obvious.

Ok, gottcha
Whitney's father is biracial. It was said she talked about it on Oprah around the time of the Bodyguard movie. actually around that time there was a big deal made about her obvious mixed looks and being casted in the interracial role. One the show she express her father being part Italian, I also heard mentioned being of Native Ancestry as well.

Is Lionel Richie divorced from his second wife? I heard that they were getting divorced. If so, which ex wife are we talking about? His first ex (black) or his second ex (white)? |

Both Lionel and his ex wife are obviously mixed people. When Nicoles hair wasn't so blond and straight she could have easily been the result of those to parents, is what I meant.
I don't remember hearing Nicoles mother was white...

| It takes more than being mixed to create a phenotype. Nicole Ritchie has certain percentages of ancestries and looks unique to her family. She does not look like Lionel. |

Black Creole? How about just Creole. The grandmother is already quite mixed.

Did I say she looked like Lionell. I said when I saw pictures of her with her adoptive parents, at the time I easily assumed that was their daughter. Man, that kind of family not uncommon. |

According to you, you never even saw the mother.
Have you ever seen a family where the parent looked mixed but one child came out looking white? I have
My comment was just that she looked like she came from them in her younger years. Brenda Richie not only has naturally curly hair but is just as fair skinned as Lionell. In those pictures I post you can't see her that much.
