Since the end of apartheid, thousands of white South Africans have been forced into poverty. They blame the government's positive discrimination policies, which favour black employees.


Question for the board: It has been my understanding that there have always been poor whites (Afrikaners) in South Africa. Wasn't the National Party's policy of "grand apartheid" motivated in part by a desire to improve the lot of many poorer Afrikaners relative to English-speaking whites and non-whites? In essence they implemented a policy of social democracy for their fellow Afrikaners, complete with affirmative action and government-mandated higher wages for similar work Africans performed.

The whites shown would have clearly been part of the lower class in any society.
