The mother of mass killer George E. Banks says she does not want to see her son executed for murdering 13 people in a shooting rampage, but that she won't hold it against the state if he receives a lethal injection as scheduled on Thursday.
The son of a white mother and black father, Banks said following his arrest that he killed his children to spare them the racist abuse that he had suffered as a biracial child.

| I don't buy Banks' excuse. I've heard of too many cases of men who killed their children in order to spite the mother or some other ridiculous excuse. The only "abuse" his children had to fear was from their father. Look, the kids were born into a very different generation in which mixed race families are becoming quite common. Also, considering that they were all the children of white mothers and a "mulatto" father, their "skin color" issues would be very different. When news of this killing was first reported, I seem to remember that the father had tried to give his kids "African" or other names that shout "Negro." |
