I have been perusing your website for the past several days and I believe it is PHENOMENAL! I love reading what everyone has to say here.

A little about myself:

I am a multicultural/multiracial woman of Black, Portuguese, East Indian, Syrian, and Scottish descent. I have been told that I resemble any one of the following: Irene Cara, Amerie, Maya Days, Stacey Dash, or even Ray Dawn Chong. Go figure! I am not yet married, but I love to hear about your families (including your beautiful photos) and often wonder how my future offspring would appear phenotypically and how they will be viewed in our society.

The discussions here are very deep and I encourage you all to keep up the excellent work!

P.S. Can someone tell me why I cannot post in certain forums? Question I really enjoy the Women's forum and would appreciate the opportunity to post there. Cool

Hi. Welcome to the group. The reason that you could not post is because the appropriate forum moderator must grant posting privileges, and this sometimes takes a few hours. I have just granted you privileges to all but the "women only" forum, so try again and you should now be able to post anywhere but there. Tracy (Mixedmom) runs the "women only" group and she will undoubtedly grant you privileges there also as soon as she realizes that we have a new member.

Thank you all for the welcome!

G-Man, to answer your question, my mother's family is from Trinidad, WI. She is what is considered by that society to be a dougla: a Hindi word denoting that 1/2 of her ancestry is East Indian with the other 1/2 being African. My father's family is Brazilian, but I was born in the good ol' U S of A!

Salassin, you are a charmer...LOL.

Fwsweet, thanks for the response. I will now go and view some of the other forums. Cool

When you mentioned the ancestral combinations I had a feeling you had some background in either Trinidad or Guyana.

BTW, my family if from Jamaica and my mother's background is similar to your mother's. Her father was East Indian and her mother was the product of a marriage between a Scottish man and an Afro-Jamaican woman.

Welcome to the group! Very nice introduction.

Feel free to jump into the conversations and don't be shy about starting a new one.

We have new members signing up everyday but they rarely introduce themselves and join in the discussions.

Looking forward to reading more from you.

G-Man:

Yes, I have family in both countries. I travel very often to Trini and to Guyana as well as I have relatives in Guyana through the marriages of other family members. Sometimes when I have the chance in terms of time and finance I do an extended stay and go further into South America visit my family in Brazil. It can be taxing, but it's a cool thing to have the opportunity to do. It's all good all over the world, you know! Razz

Yes, the Scotsmen rolled deep in our West Indian countries....Bagpipes and all! LOL. But ironically my father's grandfather was a Scot who met my Brazilian-Syrian great grandmother while working on a project in Guyana.

A lot of my Bajan/Barbadian friends are descended from Scots as well. Once again, it's all good all around the world man. Cool
