This was featured in the New York Times last week, and raises interesting questions. The autosomal DNA picture shows more east-west, and less north-south, relationships than Y-DNA evidence appears to show. I don't want anyone to think I frequent such sites, but when I googled looking for comments on this study I found one on Stormfront from a proudly dark Englishwoman who addressed the Iberian/English connection. Y-DNA evidence seems to support it but it seems the autosomal evidence shows more Brit relationship to northern continental Europe.

The reason the Finnish are so separated is because
they came into Europe in a different wave.
All of Europeans (except the Finnish) left Africa,
travelled into southern Asia (India) turned around and came into Europe probably through Russia and then the Ukraine. Europe was the last peninsula in Eurasia to be inhabited. The Finnish left Africa, went far deeper into Asia and then travelled over the very north of Russia into Finland. They are in essence almost a different race. This map of movement also explains why Europeans and Southern Asians are all caucasoid. You can see also that the Finnish speak a language in an almost unique group (Finnish-Ugric) which only the Hungarian are also in.

I am also VERY surprised that the British weren't
closer to Spain and Portugal as over half the
population of Britain (including over half of England) are descended from Celts and the Brythonic (British)Celts (after DNa testing) were found to have
originated from Iberia (notably Portugal). The
Scottish were also said to have elevated levels of
Spanish blood...strangely. As an English Briton I can tell you I know many true indigenous Britons who you honestly couldn't tell whether they were British or Iberian. It's not even uncommon, it is completely typical especially in the far south and west. Even take celebrities such as Russel Brand, Orlando Bloom (his real father's surname was Stone and was not Jewish), Ben Barnes (Prince Caspian) and Catherine Zeta Jones (Zeta was her middle name not her surname she is of pure Welsh and Irish ancestry). I'm trying to think of people you may have heard of in the US but you get my point.

Also - apologies for this long post - but Britain also has the most Middle Eastern blood in all the world barring the Middle East. Even Turkey which spans both Europe and the Middle East doesn't have as much. It's believed the indigenous population are on average 10% Middle Eastern - perhaps this explains the darkness of the population.

In the same genetic study, the Iberian peninsula
(Spain & Portugal) were so indistinguishable from
Northern Europe that they were listed under Northern
Europe with Italy and all countries lying east of it
making up Southeastern Europe.

Is this an accurate summary of the evidence?
