Pretty amusing Laughing Although I'm not a hard-core rap enthusiast, I do remember the title Rapping Duke which came out in the 80's. I actually thought it to be kinda cute.

Of course I'll never forget 2 Live Crew and their Nasty as They Wanna Be album.Due to its extreme controversial nature I just had to buy the album at that time. (I also bought Satanic Verses for the exact same reasons). When I finally listened to it, I just laughed as they reminded me of 4 little kids in the school yard having a "dirty rhyme" contest.

Duh huuuuhh duh huuuuuh
Duh huh huh huhuh huuuuuuh

Laughing

The song had a lot of airplay in NYC

Will (and Jazzy Jeff) were legitimate rappers. Will was a great freestyle rapper with great delivery, albeit with excellent diction. lol. But once he started doing television his career as a "real rapper"was over

Puffy isn't a rapper. He's a producer who feels the spotlight should be on him at all times. if yo unotice each time he "tries" to come out with an album his entire style changes (different ghostwriter)

Oh and that list is missing a few folks. People who can make songs like

J.J. FAD. Supersonic was an assault on the ears.

L'Trimm. Horrible.

We like the cars
the cars that go boom
We're Tigra & Bunny and we like the boom!

It was Run DMC.

That was a time when rap was a lot different than people would expect.
the 80's and Run DMC had a lot of rock music, the crossover probably hit with their take on Aerosmiths Walk This Way which was probably more metal than Aerosmiths version(which in opinion is very funky)

Also alot of white kids got into Public Enemy (they used rock guitar sounds too... most famous was the guitar solo from Prince's Let's Go Crazy)

Also the crossover into black audiences with the Beasty Boys (Jewish) They were the first rap group that brought a element of wild partying to their show... alot different from the (black) groups which were pretty straightforward. The Beasty Boys talked alot about partying and drinking even carrying large 40ounces onto the stage.
